Detectives believe the same vehicle has been used in both incidents and that they are linked.

To help police with inquiries an image of the car is being released and anyone who knows who it belongs to is asked to contact Northumbria Police. It is possible the vehicle is stolen and officers are keen to stress the owner may not be the person responsible for these incidents.

Detective Constable Andy Thompson said: “We know the image of the car is not great but if anyone can help us identify who it belongs to it could potentially lead to us identifying the offenders in these robberies.”

Witnesses to the robberies are also being sought.

Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 quoting reference 39 100116 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
