Police make arrest after 'disturbance' in South Shields leads to Metros being stopped
Northumbria Police has now confirmed to the Gazette that a man has been arrested following a ‘disturbance’ in the Ryton Court area of South Shields.
Metro service operator Nexus said at around 8.50am on Tuesday that trains were being stopped between Bede and South Shields stations while officers carried out inquiries following a police incident.
The stoppage lasted for around 40 minutes.

Hide AdA police spokeswoman said: “At 8.10am today, we received a report of a disturbance in the Ryton Court area of South Shields.
“A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and remains in police custody at this time. Inquiries are ongoing.”
Residents reported seeing a number of police vehicles in the area, with the police helicopter also spotted overhead.
