These are the council services running in South Tyneside during Lockdown 2

As the new restrictions come into force today – Thursday, November 5 – the local authority has issued guidance on its services for the coming weeks.
The council’s leisure facilities will close, with all duo and multi-activity leisure memberships frozen until further notice.

Hide AdLibraries continue to operate with a limited service from The Word in South Shields and Jarrow Focus sites only.
Users will be able to pre-order books by phone and reserve access to computers for essential use, on a strict appointment-only basis.
The Home Readers Library Service will also continue to operate.
Users will be able to hold onto books until after lockdown without incurring fines and can also still access the range of online library services including the Digital Library.

Hide AdAll waste services and bin collections will continue as scheduled.
The ‘Even Plate, Even Date/Odd Plate, Odd Date’ system will also remain in place at the Recycling Village in South Shields, which is open daily from 8am to 6pm.
Parks, beaches and playgrounds will remain open for exercise or to visit with people from the same household, a support bubble or with one person from another household.
Car parks will also stay open.
Schools, educational settings and children’s centres will stay open. Children’s centre groups will move online and outreach support will continue.

Hide AdBusiness centres also remain open as will the council’s Customer Contact Centre and face-to-face customer services at South Shields and Jarrow town halls.
Support services are being stepped up. This includes support for the borough’s most at-risk residents, families experiencing hardship and the business community with more details to follow over the coming days.
Council leader Iain Malcolm said: “Almost all of our services will continue to be delivered during this second national lockdown, albeit some slightly differently.
“Above all, we want to reassure our communities that we are here for them.
