Queues of traffic in Jarrow following reports of crash on A19 diversion route

Long queues of traffic were reported at Hedworth Lane following reports of a crash near the Fellgate Avenue junction on Saturday morning (November 14).

Witness have reported seeing a number of emergency vehicles at the scene.

The accident is now believed to have been moved from the road and traffic is starting to move again.

The North East Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 10.42am. We dispatched a paramedic ambulance who attended a two vehicle collision.

"No one was taken to hospital and no required any further treatment.”

The road is part of the diversion route put in place because of the A19 closures as part of roadworks relating to the creation of a new flyover.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 11am today we received a report of a two-vehicle collision on Hedworth Lane, Jarrow.”
