Shoplifter targeted South Tyneside Sainsbury's as part of £1,600 thieving spree, court told
The thief targeted Sainsbury’s in Station Road, East Boldon, four times in one week
A shoplifter pinched over £1,600 of goods during a two-week spree from stores in Sunderland and South Tyneside, a court heard.

Adam Sayers, 38, targeted Sainsbury’s in Station Road, East Boldon, four times in one week in August.
Sayers, of Franklin Street, Millfield, Sunderland, made off with items including butter, coffee and confectionery, totalling almost £1,000.
He also pinched or tried to steal from the Co-op’s branch in Broadstairs Court, Springwell, Sunderland, on Friday, August 7, and Saturday, August 22.
In the first, he made off with £368 of Red Bull drink, meat and chocolate, but was apprehended second time around trying to take a further £186 of stock.
Prosecutor Mariam Odetoro told South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court Sayers also struck three times at different Sunderland stores on Saturday, August 8.
He swiped £75 of laundry products from Home Bargains in Leechmere, £200 of air fryers from B&M at Pallion, and alcohol to an unknown value from Tesco at Sunderland Retail Park.
From the dock, Sayers pleaded guilty to eight counts of theft from a shop and one of attempted theft.
Ms Odetoro, who said some items taken were recovered, added: “The defendant has entered stores, selected items and had a bag and left the stores.
“At B&M and Home Bargains, the defendant has entered the store with an unknown individual. At Home Bargains, he was restrained by members of staff.”
The court heard Sayers was made subject to a suspended jail sentence on Monday, August 10, at the same court for another theft offence.
Four of his new offences were committed before that was imposed, District Judge Zoe Passfield confirmed.
Joanne Gatens, defending, told the judge: “It’s guilty pleas at the first available opportunity and I’m sure you’ll give him credit for that.
“It’s also noteworthy that there’s been a period where he’s been offence-free from earlier this year.
“The fact he’s offended again shows there may be an issue. There have been issues with drugs.
“I’d ask that you adjourn the case for a drug rehabilitation requirement assessment.”
Judge Passfield adjourned for an assessment to take place and Sayers will be sentenced at the same court on Tuesday, September 15.
He was granted bail on condition he lives and sleeps at his home address, abides by a 7pm to 7am curfew and does not enter the Co-op at Broadstairs Court or Sainsbury’s in Station Road.
