Borough musicians encouraged to take part in South Shields Market weekly jam sessions
South Shields Market launches weekly ‘jam’ for budding borough musicians to show off their talents.
Organisers have announced that each week South Shields Market will see musicians take to the stage and perform.
The Local Heroes, the team that runs the market, shared the news on social media that they have teamed up with Sunderland based musician Ruby Kelly to launch the new weekly ‘Market Jam’.
Ruby, a folk singer/songwriter originally from Wales, has played at many of the Local Heroes’ events before, featured on their podcast and worked with them to create the signature song for their documentary series, ‘Out and About.’

Those who wish to take part can simply turn up each week and join in with everybody else at the jam, which will be held at South Shields Market Square between 9am and 3pm every Saturday from September 26.
On social media, the organisers said the music collective was “designed to promote local, independent talent.”
Week by week, the Local Heroes team are working on the small, incremental improvements that see South Shields Market build back to the vibrant, sustainable force that we know it can be.

Sometimes, it takes doing something different in order to bring new people and a broader sense of purpose to such an iconic place.
A spokesperson, via social media, said: “So, if youre looking to share your talent, find your voice and build an audience, comment on this post, and head down to South Shields Market square and help us grow a community with so much potential! Grassroots up. Always.”
Local Heroes also runs Jesmond and Hebburn food markets in addition to their other community projects.
