Northumbria Police initially closed off the sliproad from the northbound carriage way up to A690 Durham Road interchange shortly before 7.30am on Wednesday, February 3, due to the amount of water which had pooled on the turn off.

Hide AdToday, Thursday, February 4, the road remains free of restrictions, with the force issuing a reminder to motorists to driver with caution as the wet and cold weather continues.
Its Road Safety team – which was out monitoring the speed of vehicles on one of Sunderland’s major roads during the course of yesterday – tweeted: “With more rain forecast today please take more care on the roads and slow down.

Motorists wishing to travel on the A19 northbound are asked to follow a six-mile diversion on the southbound A19 up to the B1404 Seaton Lane, to then take the road north.
