Two men seriously injured in A194 crash near Tyne Dock

Two men have been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a crash in the early hours of Sunday, July 5.

A Seat Leon car is reported to have crashed into railings and a wall near the Port of Tyne just before 3am on Sunday.

Two men have been taken to hospital with serious injuries, Northumbria Police has confirmed to the Gazette.

The eastbound carriageway of the A194 near Port of Tyne was closed for a number of hours while emergency services treated the two men at the scene and carried out accident investigation work.

Investigations ongoing following crash on A194

An appeal has now been launched asking for any witnesses or anyone with any information about the incident to contact police.

The eastbound carriageway was closed between the petrol station and West Way for a number of hours but has now been fully reopened.

A force spokesman said: “Just before 3.30am this morning (Sunday, July 5), police received a report of a one-vehicle collision on the eastbound A194 near Port of Tyne in South Shields.

“A Seat Leon car was reported to have collided with nearby railings and a wall.

“Emergency services attended the incident and two men were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“The road has now reopened following scene investigation work by officers.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police via the Northumbria Police website, quoting log 232 050720.”

Traffic and bus routes were diverted but have now returned to normal.
