According to the Met Office, the weather should start to dry up around lunchtime on Monday.

The day’s forecast shows a 90% chance of rain through most of the morning, dropping to 50% by 12pm and then just 10% from 1pm onwards.

Heavy downpours and thunder should gradually ease as the rain moves northwards during Monday, with the afternoon set to be drier but cool and murky, with low cloud and some mist.

The maximum temperature is forecast to be 19 °C.

Monday night will be damp with more low cloud and some mist during the evening and overnight, with a small chance of isolated sharp showers developing. The minimum temperature is set to be 11 °C.

Tuesday, August 18 starts murky, but mist and low cloud should clear during the morning to reveal sunny spells.

These will then spark heavy showers, with a chance of thunder. The maximum temperature will be 22 °C.

Wednesday, August 19 is forecast to be mainly fine, but becoming wet and windy overnight.

Thursday, August 20 will be brighter, ahead of further wet and windy weather to end to the week.

Thunderstorm warnings are in place for much of the UK on Monday.

Chief Meteorologist Frank Saunders added: “The storms will not affect all areas, but where they happen there will be frequent lightning, gusty winds and intense, heavy downpours with 30 to 40mm of rain possible in less than an hour.”
