FA Vase: Boldon CA inspired by the chance to make history
Boldon CA could reach the FA Vase third round for only the second time in their history this weekend.
Boldon CA joint-manager Chris Spence wants his players to be inspired by history when they face FC St Helens in the FA Vase second round this weekend.

After seeing off Longridge Town, Campion and Jarrow in the previous rounds, Boldon are now preparing for a second round tie for only the second time in their history and a win in the North West would match the club’s previous best performance in the competition.

They must also see off higher level opposition for the third time in four rounds if they are to do so with their hosts sitting just below mid-table in the North West Counties League Premier Division table following a 2-1 win at AFC Liverpool last weekend.
The Merseyside outfit have already seen off Northern League opposition after strolling to a 6-0 home win against Darlington Town in the previous round - and Spence is adamant his side are doing all they can to avoid falling to a similar fate on Saturday afternoon.
He told The Gazette: “It’s a challenge and we’re well aware of that, but it’s one we’ll relish and we’re enjoying it. The lads keep getting reminded that they’re making history with the club, and hopefully we can keep that going. We’ve done as much homework as we can with the information that’s out there. We’ll go there with our own game plan and let them worry about us.”
Spence and Trott have a strong squad available for the game and have several big decisions to make.
