Hebburn Town boss wants to 'apply some pressure' to promotion rivals

Hebburn Town are facing two pivotal games in their push for promotion into the National League North.

Daniel Moore has challenged Hebburn Town to apply some pressure to their promotion rivals by collecting six points from their next two games.

The Hornets will round off a busy February that has brought hundreds of mies on the road when they visit Ilkeston Town on Saturday before making a return to their home patch when Stocksbridge Park Steels visit the Trustmark Group Stadium on Tuesday night.

As it stands, Moore’s men are sitting just one point behind Premier Division leaders Hednesford Town and the Pitmen will not return to action until they travel to Bamber Bridge on Saturday week. That has left Moore to lay down the gauntlet to his players as they look to bring a successful end to what has been a promotion push very few people expected.

He told The Gazette: “If we are going to do anything this year, play-offs or being in and around the top end this season, we are definitely doing it the hard way. We have to do it that way and it’s not by chance. We got on the bus to Leek last Saturday and it was here we go again and we’ll do this same thing this weekend. It took four and a half hours to get to Leek but we got a positive result at a difficult place to go.

“This week is massive for us. We’ve spoken about that because Hednesford don’t play Saturday or Tuesday so we have our game in hand and if we can take six points from those two games we can be five points ahead with eight games to go. Yes, teams will have games in hand but it’s about putting the pressure on them and try and secure a play-off place at very least because that would be a massive step forward for our club.”

Moore could hand further game time to on-loan forward Dan Savage after the South Shields youngster agreed to another spell with the Hornets. However, Hartlepool United youngster Campbell Darcy is not expected to be fit for the visit to the New Manor Ground after he picked up an injury in last weekend’s draw at Leek Town.
