Hebburn Town FC assistant manager praises strike duo after big Durham Challenge Cup win
Hebburn Town claimed a big win in a Durham Challenge Cup tie against Northern League side Park View on Tuesday night.
Hebburn Town FC assistant manager Mark Hudson praised strikers Josh Donaldson and Jake Charles after they impressed in Tuesday’s Durham Challenge Cup win against Northern League side Park View.
Charles has led the way for the Hornets during their first ever season in the National League North with on-loan Hartlepool United youngster Donaldson providing an effective alternative at the top end of the pitch. Manager Daniel Moore has utilised a solitary frontman during the vast majority of the season but Charles and Donaldson were paired at the top end of the pitch during the second-half of Saturday’s league draw with Harborough Town.

That partnership was given another chance to shine in Tuesday’s home tie with Park View - and the duo laid the foundations for an 8-0 win with Charles scoring twice in the opening quarter of an hour and Donaldson hitting a prolific hat-trick. Sunderland youngster Jayden Jones and on-loan Leeds United defender Coban Bird both netted their first goals for the club before Matty Cornish rounded off a devastating performance with a late goal.
Speaking after the game, Hudson revealed his delight over how Charles and Donaldson combined and praised the ruthlessness of the Hornets display.
He told the club website: “It’s a good, professional performance I would say. They’re a decent side, they train every day, they’re young lads so we had to be on our game. I think it helped that we scored a couple of goals in the first ten minutes. We were on the front foot and it’s a competition we want to try and win. We put a strong team out and it was nice to see the two strikers on the pitch. One of them got three and the other one got two so that’s pleasing. We tried it in the second half on Saturday and it was something we were always planning on doing tonight, changing the system with three at the back, wing-backs, and it gives them an opportunity to play together and they’re a handful.”
Hebburn are back in action on Saturday when they made the long trip to National League North rivals Merthyr Town.
