‘It doesn’t make it easier’ - First Newcastle United player goes public on St James’ Park boos
Newcastle United slumped to another dismal 1-0 defeat at St James’ Park last night.
Dan Burn believes booing the Newcastle United players will only serve to the detriment of the team.
Just like after the Aston Villa loss a fortnight ago, a chorus of frustration echoed around St James’ Park at the full-time whistle. Newcastle limped to a consecutive 1-0 defeat at home, with Matthias Jaissle’s men failing to muster a shot on target until the 85th minute.
The Magpies squandered the chance to move up to seventh in the Premier League. Uncertainty over Jaissle’s style of football will undoubtedly ramp up on Tyneside in the coming days.

‘I understand’ - Dan Burn
As a lifelong fan, Burn admitted he understands the fan frustration at the full-time whistle. However, the Newcastle captain also highlighted how the jeers can negatively impact the players.
“I understand fan frustration,” Burn said. “I get it, like them booing at half-time and at full-time. I completely understand. I've been a season ticket holder here and I understand what to expect from a Newcastle team, but it doesn't make it easier to play here when you've got that.
“I think there are lads who've probably not experienced that before. You can feel that little bit of nervous energy and I think that transmits onto the field. Having said that, I think it's us who drive them on and bring them with us, and we haven't done that today. So, as I said, I can understand it, but it doesn't make it any easier.
“I think that starts from us. They feed off us a little bit and when we start a game quickly and we win that first foul or we're pressing and win that first ball, you can build that energy, but it can also go the other way as well.
“I can understand that if we're maybe not pressing and Everton had a lot of the ball, they're wanting us to get up the pitch. I think that comes from us to start with and I think we'll build from there, but it's still a tough place to play when you can feel that.”
Dan Burn makes Newcastle United plea
Burn also urged the supporters to “stick” by the team ahead of the trip to Fulham on Saturday. He added: “Yes, stick with us. As I said, I completely understand your frustrations, but now is the time for everyone to pull together. We need you, just like a lot at the moment.
“I understand that going away from home hasn't always been great for you, but I can promise you, it's not from a lack of trying that we're not getting results.
“I know the amount of effort that goes in every single day from the lads and the management. I hope that you see the response that we should have had today from the cup.”
