'Absolutely fantastic' - Everton praised for Hebburn Town FC visit ahead of Newcastle United win
Everton prepared for their Premier League win at Newcastle United with a training session at Hebburn Town’s Trustmark Group Stadium - full story in Wednesday’s Shields Gazette.
Hebburn Town FC chief executive Stephen Rutherford has praised Premier League club Everton after they prepared for Monday’s win at Newcastle United at the Trustmark Group Stadium.
The Toffees claimed a 1-0 win at St James Park thanks to a Thierno Barry goal to increase the pressure on Magpies head coach Matthias Jaissle after his side produced a lacklustre display. That victory at Gallowgate came just hours after David Moyes and his players had held a light training session at the home of the National League North after returning to South Tyneside for a second consecutive season.

The Toffees originally visited Hebburn last November ahead of a 1-1 draw at Sunderland as a goal from Iliman Ndiaye was cancelled out by an equaliser from Black Cats captain Granit Xhaka in a Monday night fixture at the Stadium of Light. Rutherford revealed his delight over the trust placed in his club and revealed Everton boss Moyes ‘offered great feedback’ over the club’s facilities.
He told The Gazette: “It was a real privilege to welcome David Moyes and his Everton squad to the Trustmark Group Stadium on Monday. This is the second occasion where Everton have used our facilities ahead of a North East game after they prepared for their game Sunderland here last season. These type of events are really prestigious for a non-league club like us and it means a lot to be able to allow Premier League sides to train on our surface and utilise our facilities.
“It’s been really pleasing that they trust what we offer here at Hebburn Town and have come back and we hope to have more Premier League clubs in the coming months and years utilise the facilities. It is quite frightening though when you see over £500 million worth of talent training on your pitch - but I can say all of the Everton staff, from David Moyes right through to the kit men and all the players, were absolutely fantastic. They completed their training session and afterwards gave up their time to talk to staff, sign shirts and take photos whilst offering great feedback about the facility and thanking us at the same time.”
