Jarrow manager Kennie Malia working hard to add to squad

Jarrow are already preparing for the new Northern League season.

Jarrow manager Kennie Malia has revealed he is already hard at work preparing his squad for the new Northern League season as they look to move on from their play-off final heartache.

The Perth Green outfit experienced a penalty shoot-out defeat in the Division Two play-off final for the second consecutive season when they were beaten at Yarm and Eaglescliffe last month. However, there has been no letup for Malia and his coaching staff as they have been hard at work piecing together their squad for the new campaign and identifying potential additions to their ranks as they look to secure promotion into Division One at the third attempt.

Malia admitted the hard work had to start within days of their shoot-out agony on Teesside to ensure he did not miss out on securing the services of current members of his squad or any new summer additions.

He told The Gazette: “You never switch off and that was one of the first things one of the lads put in the group chat on the Sunday after the play-off final. He was asking who we are looking to sign and that’s just us, we don’t switch off. I think if you do switch off or you have too long off, you miss out on the ones you want to bring in or players at the club might think you don’t want them. We are right back on it again now, we know what we have to do to get to where we want to be so now it’s just a case of doing that over the summer and into the new season.”

Meanwhile, Jarrow have also confirmed details of their pre-season schedule as Malia and his players prepare for the 2026/27 Northern League season.

Northern League Division One club Whickham will visit Perth Green on Saturday, July 4 before Jarrow have an away double header at Blyth Town and Newcastle Blue Star over the following week. West Lancashire League club Rostock St Gerards head to South Tyneside on Saturday, July 18 before Malia’s side roundoff their friendly fixtures with a visit North Shields three days later.
