With the return of European football to St James’ Park becoming more and more likely as games go by, Newcastle United could have a very busy summer on their hands.
Both quality and depth will need to be added to Eddie Howe’s squad if they are to successfully balance the demands of domestic and European football next season.
Unsurprisingly, there have been plenty of players rumoured to be on the move to St James’ Park this summer - but which are likely to join and which players probably won’t be moving to Tyneside?
Here, we take a look at a host of players that have been linked with a move to Newcastle United this summer and assess whether they are likely to join the club or not.

5. Antonee Robinson (possible)
Robinson has impressed at Fulham this season and has reportedly caught the eye of both Newcastle United and Manchester City. Robinson is an out and out left-back with Premier League experience. Photo: Ryan Pierse

6. James Maddison (unlikely)
Maddison is a long-term target for Newcastle, but they look set to miss out on his signature to Tottenham Hotspur this summer. Leicester will reportedly demand £50m for him and whilst Newcastle aren’t fully out of the race, it appears that they have moved onto other targets. Photo: Matthew Lewis

7. Wilfried Zaha (possible)
Zaha could leave Selhurst Park on a free transfer this summer. As a Premier League proven winger who could come in and improve Newcastle’s first-team straight away, Zaha fits the bill. Photo: Shaun Botterill

8. Victor Osimhen (unlikely)
Newcastle will likely be priced out of a move for Osimhen this summer with Napoli set to do everything in order to keep hold of the Nigerian. He will undoubtedly cost more than £100m and with Alexander Isak getting better by the game, it’s unlikely that United will fork out this amount of money for a striker. Photo: MARCO BERTORELLO
