I just signed for Newcastle United on a free & I'm already loving football again

Young striker Afner Ca joined Newcastle United during the summer transfer window.

One of Newcastle United’s latest signings has pledged to continue improving as he looks to adapt to life in England.

Young striker Afner Ca was a somewhat surprise addition to the Magpies Under-21s ranks after he penned a long-term deal at St James Park in the aftermath of his departure from Spanish side Levante. Although the 19-year-old failed to make a senior appearance for the La Liga club, there was plenty of enthusiasm over his arrival on Tyneside - and he has started to show some of his potential in recent weeks.

Ca made his debut in black and white during a pre-season friendly draw with National League North club Spennymoor Town and grabbed his first goal for Newcastle as Robbie Stockdale’s Under-21s side claimed a 3-1 win at York City in an EFL Trophy tie last month. The Guinea-Bissau born frontman made a big impression as he hit a brace in a 4-1 Premier League Cup victory against Luton Town on Friday night and produced a eye-catching display in a National League Cup tie with Hartlepool United in midweek.

After receiving praise from Stockdale in recent days, Ca has delivered a positive assessment of life in England following his surprise move to Tyneside and insisted he ‘still has a lot to improve and much more to give’ as he battles with Georgian youngster Vakhtang Salia for a place in the Magpies Under-21s side.

In a post released via the All Iron Sports Instagram account, the striker said: "I feel like I'm finding my football again and, above all, enjoying myself on the pitch again. Last season in Spain didn't go as I had hoped, but it was a period that taught me a lot and helped me grow as a player. Now, in England, I feel that the style of play suits me better. It's more physical, more intense and involves more duels, which I think plays to my strengths. I know I still have a lot to improve and much more to give, but I'm happy with where I am right now and I want to keep developing."
