Goalscorers Callum Wilson, Miguel Almiron and Joelinton were all named in Shearer’s XI along with defender Kieran Trippier, who assisted Wilson’s second goal. Shearer also named Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe as ‘manager of the week’.

The Magpies secured a third straight home win to remain in the top four in the Premier League table after 13 matches.

And when posting his team of the week on Instagram, Shearer accompanied it with the caption: “It makes sense!”

It’s the first time the Newcastle all-time top goalscorer has named five men from his former club as part of his Premier League team of the week.
