Ayoze Perez aims dig at Leicester off the field – but Newcastle United on it

Former Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez admits he thinks Leicester pales in comparison to the Tyneside city – but from a football perspective, he’s in no doubt he made the right move.

Swapping Tenerife for Newcastle in 2014, Perez made the city his home in five successful years at St James’s Park.

And the Spaniard admits he enjoyed the buzz of the Toon more than his new East Midlands home.

But, crucially, he feels much more at home in the King Power dressing-room, than he ever did at United.

“It’s a very familiar group – everybody is close to each other. You can call each other friends,” £30million summer departure Perez said of his Foxes teammates.

“It’s something I haven’t had before and it’s great to have that feeling. As soon as I walked in, when I signed, I had that feeling. It’s important in a football club.

“Ben (Chilwell), Madders (James Maddison), Hamza (Choudhury), a lot of them, you feel you are very close to them. I felt it was a very warm welcome when I signed.”

But when asked about settling in to life off the pitch, he told TalkSPORT: “I’m not going to lie, he said when asked if he had found much to do.

“I’m starting to know the city a little bit more, but I’m a private person, so most of the time I’m at home chilling.

“The city of Newcastle is a bit better. I enjoyed it a lot over there. But I’ll find something to do here.”
