'Bid sent' - Fabrizio Romano provides Newcastle United transfer update as Real Madrid respond to £30m offer
Newcastle United transfers: Fabrizio Romano has provided a fresh update in the club’s pursuit of Victor Munoz from Osasuna.
Real Madrid have handed Newcastle United a free run to sign Victor Munoz from Osasuna this summer.
Munoz joined Osasuna from Real Madrid last summer for a total fee of around £5million, which included a release clause of around £35million.
Real Madrid also inserted a buy-back clause for Munoz and hold 50% of his economic rights should the forward be sold on, entitling them to half of a sell-on fee should they agree not to buy him back.
NUFC pushing to agree Victor Munoz transfer
Munoz went on to score seven goals in 37 appearances for Osasuna last season, attracting plenty of interest in the process.
Newcastle are leading the race to sign the 22-year-old. The Gazette understands the Magpies believe an agreement can be reached that would bring the two-time Spain international to Tyneside.
Munoz is currently away at the World Cup with the Spain national team and would have to complete any formalities of a move, including a medical, over in North America.
As Munoz’s release clause would have to be paid in full up front, Newcastle are negotiating a structured deal worth around £30million for the player. That would entitle Real Madrid to just under £15million should a deal be agreed.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 15-time European Cup winners will not stand in Newcastle’s way when it comes to striking a deal.
Romano posted on X: “Real Madrid will NOT activate the buy-back clause for Víctor Muñoz as Newcastle are confident to get deal done after bid sent yesterday. Real will receive 50% of the deal, over €17m [£14.7million].”

Osasuna chief delivers transfer stance
Osasuna chief Braulio Vázquez insists winger Victor Munoz will only leave for his buyout clause.
“Real Madrid has a three-year buy-back clause that has already been agreed upon," Vazquez confirmed earlier this year.
"What we're doing is enjoying Víctor until the end of the season. Football is very unpredictable.
"Many people criticised us for signing such a young player with so few minutes in La Liga. Now they're asking us why we didn't buy him outright.
"It's complicated. We happily accepted the terms Real Madrid set. Víctor Muñoz made the right call, and so did we."
