Chelsea have suffered a major injury scare ahead of their trip to Newcastle United in the Premier League this weekend.

Frank Lampard’s Blues travel to St James’s Park on Saturday as the Premier League kicks back into action – but the former England midfielder could well be without one of his key defenders on Tyneside.

Summer signing Ben Chilwell limped out of England’s 2-0 Nations League loss in Belgium on Sunday evening, making him a doubt for the United clash this weekend.

Speaking about the injury, which forced the 23-year-old off after just 38 minutes, England boss Gareth Southgate said: “He had some sort of issue with his back that he was complaining about and he didn’t feel he could carry on.

Chelsea are however set to welcome back Kai Havertz after his coronavirus isolation, while Christian Pulisic is said to be touch and go.
