However, Howe still sells his way of working – and his coaching “philosophy” – to transfer targets in an attempt to convince them that they can prosper at St James’s Park.

Asked how he sold the club to prospective signings, United’s head coach said: “I don’t find that very difficult at all, to be honest.

"The club sells itself to a degree, because of its history, because of the supporters, because of the stadium. I think, when you speak to players, everyone’s well aware of what Newcastle represents.

"What I have to sell is my way of working, my coaching philosophy, the way I want to play the game, my staff, the squad we have.

"I think they’re the things people, players maybe don’t know enough about, so you’re trying to give them a good representation of that, and trying to convince them this is the best decision for their career at this moment in time, so we can help develop them.

"That’s where I’ll have to go into detail.”

Meanwhile, Botman, signed from Lille for £35million, revealed why he joined Newcastle in an interview with the Gazette last month.
