Steve Bruce lost Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron to injuries in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers, and the club's head coach, also without Callum Wilson, is short of options in the forward positions ahead of Sunday’s game against West Bromwich Albion.

Anderson – who has made two substitute’s appearances this season after being promoted to the first-team squad by Bruce – is inexperienced, but ideally suited to Almiron’s No.10 role. The 18-year-old midfielder, handed a new contract earlier this season, is a technically-gifted player with good vision – and he also has a knack of getting on the end of things in the box.

Anderson quickly earned the respect of United’s senior players on the training field after being called up, and the loss of Saint-Maximin and Almiron has edged him closer to his first Premier League start.

Speaking in January, Bruce said: “He’s got a big future ahead, that’s for sure.”
