Whether it was on a permanent transfer, loan deal or expiring contract, around 20 players exited St James’s Park ahead of Steve Bruce’s second season in charge.
The likes of Danny Rose, Valentino Lazaro and Nabil Bentaleb returned to their parent clubs, while some of United’s upcoming talent secured loan moves in the Football League.

Fernandez, 23, was poised to be the next big thing at Newcastle but early injuries ruined his progress. He’s now back in Spain playing for UE Cornella, who are in the third-tier of Spanish football. Photo: Charlotte Tattersall

6. Liam Gibson
The 24-year-old left-back was snapped up by Morecambe following his release from Newcastle and has played 24 matches this term as Derek Adams’ side chased automatic promotion from League Two. Photo: Lewis Storey

7. Jake Turner

8. Jack Colback
Colback’s career on Tyneside turned sour when he was frozen out by Rafa Benitez - enjoying two loans at Nottingham Forest before signing permanently. His third spell hasn't been as successful, playing just 39 minutes of Championship football since November. Photo: Laurence Griffiths
