Jeff Hendrick reveals his best position in Newcastle United midfield after friendly debut

Newcastle United new boy Jeff Hendrick has revealed the position he wants to play in Steve Bruce’s midfield.

The Republic of Ireland international made his Magpies debut in yesterday’s 2-1 pre-season win over Barnsley, playing an hour. Goals from Andy Carroll and Jacob Murphy sealed victory at the club’s Benton training base.

And Hendrick says he wants to play in the middle for the Magpies.

He said: “I've said if any manager wherever I am needed me to play in a different position, I'd do that no problem but I feel like I can kick on playing in the middle, so hopefully I can.”

On making the move to SJP: “It's my decision. It doesn't matter what people say to me, whether they say somewhere is good or bad. It's the feel I get from the club so I wouldn't have talked to anyone. Obviously, Clarky (Ciaran Clark) talked but it was my decision.”
