Non-League club 'line up' Newcastle United derby legend for shock Andy Carroll reunion
A former Newcastle United midfielder is reportedly being lined up for a quickfire return to management.
A non-league club are reportedly keen to appoint a Newcastle United Tyne-Wear derby legend and reunite him with a former Magpies team-mate.
Just over six weeks have passed since YouTube influencer KSI bought a stake in National League South club Dagenham and Redbridge and immediately stated his desire to take the London club into the Premier League - despite the fact they are currently plying their trade in the second tier of the non-league game. The Daggers parted company with manager Lee Bradbury just two weeks after KSI’s arrival and former Newcastle striker Andy Carroll, who was part of the club’s playing squad, was named as interim manager. Since taking charge, the Magpies academy product has led his side to two wins, two draws and two defeats in his six games in charge and they are currently sitting in thirteenth place in the National League South table with just one game remaining in the season.
However, there are now reports suggesting KSI is ‘lining up’ a move for Carroll’s former Newcastle and West Ham United team-mate Kevin Nolan following his departure from League One strugglers Northampton Town last month. The former Magpies midfielder, who famously scored a hat-trick in a 5-1 derby win against Sunderland in October 2010, left the Cobblers in the relegation zone after winning just one of his last 17 games in charge - but did reflect positively on his time at Sixfields.
Speaking as a pundit on Sky Sports coverage of a Championship fixture between Watford and Wrexham just days after his departure was confirmed, he was asked how the last week had been and replied: "Difficult! I really enjoyed my time there but there’s nothing than being here with you guys tonight doing this. We'll have to see what the plan is longer term. I'll spend some time with my family and see what happens. I loved every minute of it and it's not put me off management, but I enjoy this side of it (punditry) as well. I'm just looking forward to seeing what's next and I'm going to enjoy whatever comes in front of me."
Return

Nolan could now be handed an immediate return to the dugout after journalist Pete O’Rourke claimed he was under consideration to take charge of Dagenham. He posted on X: “Former Notts County and Northampton boss Kevin Nolan is being lined up for the vacant manager’s job at Dagenham & Redbridge to link up with former Newcastle and West Ham team-mate Andy Carroll at the National League South club”.
A reunion with Carroll would evoke memories of Newcastle’s successful push for promotion into the Premier League under Chris Hughton during the 2009/10 season. Carroll and Nolan plundered their way to a combined 34 league goals throughout the campaign as their side saw off the challenge of West Bromwich Albion to secure an immediate return to the top flight after suffering a heartbreaking relegation into the Championship just 12 months earlier.
