Matthias Jaissle makes drastic Newcastle United changes - £55m star axed vs Crystal Palace

Will Osula has not started for Newcastle United since the opening day of the Premier League season.

Will Osula will lead the line for Newcastle United against Crystal Palace as Matthias Jaissle has ripped up the team that lost last weekend.

In a radical shake-up, the German has made five changes from the side that slumped to a 1-0 home defeat to Aston Villa. In defence, Fabian Schar and Dan Burn - the captain - have been recalled to replace Malick Thiaw and Sven Botman.

Likewise, Amar Dedic has recovered from injury and comes in for Lewis Miley - who misses out altogether. Lukas Hornicek between the sticks and Lewis Hall at left-back complete the backline.

Joelinton and Nico Gonzalez are set to anchor the midfield on a windy afternoon at Selhurst Park. A three-pronged support act of Harvey Barnes, Joe Willock and Jacob Murphy will supply the bullets to Will Osula in attack.

The Dane started the season as first-choice striker before suffering an unfortunate foot injury on the opening day against Liverpool. He now gets the chance to provide some much-needed ammunition to a limp Toon attack.

Last weekend, the Magpies managed just one shot on target as Villa edged out all three points at St James’ Park. Yoane Wissa, who drops to the bench, came under fire for spooning two decent chances to pull Newcastle level.

Osula netted for United in a 2-1 defeat at Selhurst Park last season. An opportunity today could showcase exactly why Jaissle named his as first-choice striker ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

As mentioned, Miley is missing from the matchday squad. Matias Fernandez-Pardo - yet to find the scoresheet since his £51million summer switch - is also absent after suffering with an illness.

On a positive note, Anthony Elanga and Jacob Ramsey have returned to the setup. Both players must settle for a place on the bench as Newcastle aim to get back to winning ways in the Premier League.
