Matthias Jaissle hits out at Premier League rules following Newcastle United incident v Bournemouth
Newcastle United 2-2 AFC Bournemouth: Matthias Jaissle picked up his first booking as Newcastle head coach at St James’ Park on Saturday.
Matthias Jaissle made his disappointment known after being shown his first Premier League booking during Newcastle United’s 2-2 draw against AFC Bournemouth at St James’ Park on Saturday.
Marcus Tavernier and a Malick Thiaw own goal put Bournemouth in a commanding position after 35 minutes, but Harvey Barnes’ stunning goal kept Newcastle in the match as the sides went in 1-2 at half-time. Jacob Ramsey then grabbed a late equaliser to salvage a point for the Magpies.
During the second half, Jaissle was shown a yellow card by referee Rob Jones for repeatedly leaving his technical area.

And after the match, he slammed the Premier League rules that saw him punished.
“Yeah, this is a bit disappointing actually,” Jaissle said on his booking. “I need to check what really was causing that problem. If I'm against the referee, then it's fine to get a yellow card, but if I'm 20 centimetres out of the box and pushing my team [on], just supporting, engaging with the team, I'm not sure if this is the benefit of that rule!”
Weeks prior, Jaissle admitted that controlling his emotions on the touchline would be something he would have to get used to in order to avoid falling foul of the Premier League rules and being handed a touchline ban. One of the first questions Jaissle made upon taking the job as head coach was how many bookings he would need to be handed a touchline ban.
The answer to that question is three, meaning the German will have to mindful of his touchline conduct for the remainder of the campaign.
Following his appointment last month, Jaissle said: “I will not change my style, because that's my personality; on the touchline I'm emotional, but I need to respect a bit more the box.
“I'm a bit scared [of being punished], I hope in the beginning the referees can close [their eyes] maybe here and there a little!
