Newcastle Under-23s closed the gap on the play-off places in Premier League 2, Division 2, after a 2-0 win at Middlesbrough on Friday night.
Second-half goals from Elliot Anderson and Tom Allan secured all three points for Chris Hogg’s side, who are now just a single point off fifth-place Boro.
The Teessiders were also reduced to 10 men when Nathan Wood was shown a straight red card in stoppage time.
