Thirteenth last season and same again this, one point worse off. Progress, stagnation or reverse gear? Probably one two of those three really apply.

Our Newcastle United fan panel have been having their say on the season that was – and it’s fair to say they’re in desperate need of a Saudi takeover. Aren’t we all?

Thoughts on the game?

"It wasn’t much of a game, typical end of season fair. We did all our attacking in the first 30 seconds and it was all downhill from there. No shame in losing to the Champions of course but it was tame.”

Hopes for the NUFC takeover?

“Cross everything that we get some sort of green light this week or it’ll be more of the same next season. Ugly, unambitious football with the single hope of staying up.”

Graeme Bell – @GraemeBell_NUFC

Explain that one?

“I thought we started well the goal aside... but then just dropped off dramatically. Defensive mistakes again, that is very worrying for next season. I would like to see a stat about defensive mistakes that led to a goal, I’ll bet we’re top. But credit to Liverpool they’re a fantastic side and well worthy of their title.”

Are we in need of a Premier League decision on the possible takeover?

“God knows what happens, we know one thing... This takeover nonsense cannot drag on forever and I live in hope that the Premier League will actually do something about this soon. Without a takeover, I see no investment this summer at all and failing to strengthen as well as losing the loan players and most likely Matty Longstaff will see us relegated next season, cheers Richard Masters and co for being equally as incompetent as our current owner.”

Steve Wraith – @stevewraith

A massive gulf in class or typical end of season stuff?

"Typical end of season game. Men against boys in the second half. If a takeover does not go through then we are in big trouble with Ashley in charge and Bruce as head coach. We were lucky not to go down this season. We will go down next season.”

Thoughts on the season as a whole?

“I said signing Andy Carroll was a publicity stunt. He wasn’t brought back to make assists and help defend corners he was brought back to score goals. He scored zero. Joelinton cost £40 million. He scored TWO goals. We scored 38 goals in 38 games. Bruce has been lucky. We have been lucky.”
