Steve Bruce has already added Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser, Jamal Lewis, Jeff Hendrick and Mark Gillespie to his squad, in what has proven to be a productive summer at St James’s Park.

But reports suggest Bruce isn’t finished in the market just yet, and could be set to add signing number six to his ranks in the coming days.

According to the Daily Mail, Peruvian playmaker Rodrigo Vilca is on the brink of completing a £250,000 move to the Magpies.

Vilca, 21, currently plays for Deportivo Municipal and has recently been called into the Peru national squad as his stock in South America continues to grow.

And his performances of late have caught the eye of Newcastle, who are understood to be close to landing his signature.

However, the Mail suggest that Vilca may initially be loaned out to gain experience – with concerns over whether he is ready for the rough and tumble of the Premier League.

His technical ability is what has caught the eye of United talent-spotters though, with the six-figure sum considered a snip for such a promising young talent.

And the arrival of Vilca could coincide with the departure of another first-team player.

After Yoshinori Muto sealed a temporary exit from St James’s Park on Wednesday, DeAndre Yedlin may be the next out the door – with clubs in the MLS and Europe considering a move for the £5million-rated full-back.
