Fresh footage confirms imminent Newcastle United medical - plus deadline day transfer exit approved

Newcastle United transfers: Newcastle United are set for a busy transfer deadline day with the arrival of Matias Fernandez-Pardo set to be finalised.

Matias Fernandez-Pardo is on Tyneside ready to complete a £51million transfer from Lille to Newcastle United.

A deal was agreed for the 21-year-old forward over the bank holiday weekend, with the Belgian international travelling to Newcastle on Monday to undergo his medical and finalise a move.

Transfer narrative expert Fabrizio Romano shared exclusive images of Fernandez-Pardo with his agent in a private plane en route to Newcastle before Sky Sports shared footage of his arrival at Newcastle International Airport on Monday evening.

Fernandez-Pardo’s arrival sees Newcastle continue to bounce back from an initially bruising summer transfer window that saw them lose Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier and head coach Eddie Howe. But the appointment of Matthias Jaissle, followed by the recent signings of first-team-ready players such as Lukas Hornicek, Amar Dedic and Nico Gonzalez has helped the Magpies get their 2026/27 campaign off to a positive start.

A versatile attacking addition

As previously reported by The Gazette, Newcastle wanted to secure a versatile forward player capable of playing across the front three or in a deeper No. 10 role. Fernandez-Pardo was identified as a suitable target in that role, though Newcastle were initially cautious given interest from elsewhere, having been stung previously in the window.

But Newcastle pushed to strike a deal in the final days of the transfer window, with Lille’s move to sign Ayase Ueda from Feyenoord opening the door for Fernandez-Pardo to leave. He will be the fourth player Newcastle have signed from Lille after Yohan Cabaye, Mathieu Debuchy and Sven Botman.

The arrival of another attacking player could see one leave Newcastle on deadline day. Last summer’s record signing Nick Woltemade has struggled to find his place in the starting line-up since the turn of the year and has been made available to leave on loan.

There has been plenty of interest in the German international, but it is understood that Serie A side Juventus are the club set to secure a loan deal. It comes after Woltemade came off the bench and grabbed an assist for Yoane Wissa in Newcastle’s 2-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
