Newcastle United gossip: Toon consider surprise move for Liverpool star, Steve Bruce eyes Chelsea loan deal
The transfer rumour mill has been in full flow over the Bank Holiday weekend as Newcastle United look ahead to the summer.
Steve Bruce is preparing for what he hopes is a busy couple of months – with a number of ins and outs touted.
Here is the latest gossip surrounding the Magpies:
Nat Phillips ‘considered’ by Newcastle
Liverpool defender Nathaniel Phillips has reportedly emerged as a target for Newcastle United and Burnley.
The 24-year-old unexpectedly played 17 times in the Premier League last season following long-term injuries to Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.
However, with those players set to return in August onwards, Phillips is set to drop down the pecking order.
According to The Sun, Steve Bruce and Sean Dyche are monitoring his situation with a view to launching a possible swoop.
Toon ‘enquire’ about Portuguese full-back
Newcastle are among three English clubs to enquire about Benfica’s £13m-rated full-back Nuno Tavares, reports in Portugal say.
Tavares, 21, was subject of strong interest from Napoli, however Gennaro Gattuso’s departure as manager has delayed a move from happening.
His release clause stands at £88million but the Portuguese club are willing to negotiate a significantly reduced fee.
Indeed, O Jogo claims Newcastle, Brighton and Southampton have shown an interest in signing Tavares.
