Not just Nico Gonzalez - Newcastle United suffer second injury blow during Leeds United visit
Newcastle United suffered two new injury blows during their trip to Leeds United.
Nico Gonzalez wasn’t the only Newcastle United midfielder to sustain an injury during the visit to Leeds United on Monday night.
Gonzalez suffered a suspected concussion during the early stages of the Magpies’ 4-1 defeat at Elland Road and was replaced by fellow summer signing Sean Steur in the 19th minute.
The score was still 0-0 at the time but the Whites ended up taking a 3-0 lead into half-time following Lewis Miley’s unfortunate own goal, and goals from Jayden Bogle and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Noah Okafor added a fourth for the home side on the hour mark before substitute Bazoumana Toure scored a 90th-minute consolation for Newcastle.
“With Nico, as a manager, and also as a club, we have also the responsibility that, if he had that knock-out feeling, as you all saw, that we are also responsible enough to take him off the pitch,” said United head coach Matthias Jaissle. “Even though he looked fine then.
“There are also some rules, especially for that occasion, and I think we're independent of how important he is and how important it is to win a match, that we are all human beings as well, and we take that seriously, so therefore we took the decision to take him off the pitch.”
Not just Nico Gonzalez - NUFC dealt another midfielder blow
Jaissle turned to Steur ahead of Jacob Ramsey, which came as a surprise to some after the former Aston Villa man scored a late equaliser in the 2-2 draw against Bournemouth at St James’ Park last time out before starting the Carabao Cup third round tie at Millwall three days later.
However, Jaissle revealed after the game that he was unable to call upon Ramsey from the bench after he felt his thigh during the pre-match warm-up.
Jaissle said: “Pretty simply explained, he felt his thigh in the warm-up, so he was not able to play tonight, that was the next challenge. Tonight, a little bit of the story, I would say many things came together.”
Gonzalez and Ramsey add to the Magpies’ growing injury list, with Anthony Elanga, Joelinton, Dan Burn and Ewen Jaouen also sidelined.
When asked if any of those players would be back in time for Saturday’s clash at home to Hull City, Jaissle replied “it doesn’t look good at the moment.”
