Almiron suffered a knee injury in last month’s 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers at St James’s Park – and the club initially reported that the midfielder would be sidelined until next month along with team-mates Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin.
However, the 27-year-old has made better-than-expected progress over the past fortnight – and he could be back for Saturday night’s game against Brighton and Hove Albion. The relegation-threatened club today revealed that Almiron had joined in “part” of today’s training session – after making “good progress” in his rehabilitation.
