Newcastle United 'join race' for Manchester United and Tottenham target as ex-England striker issues Magpies transfer warning

Steve Bruce has already been touted with a swoop for the likes of Said Benrahma, Marcos Paulo, Antonee Robinson and Emmanuel Dennis - and now a new name has cropped up.

According to Turkish media outlet Net Haber, the Magpies are showing an interest in Fenerbahce’s 6 foot 4 inch striker Vedat Muriqi.

The Kosovo international has spent the last six years in Turkey across four different clubs, including Caykur Rizespor, who he joined Fenerbahce from in 2019.

And in such a short space of time at the Turkish giants, the 25-year-old has attracted tons of Premier League interest with 12 goals to his name this term.

Previously, Muriqi has been linked with Manchester United and Tottenham, however, the report adds that Newcastle, Leicester, Burnley and AS Monaco are all keen on the striker.

Fenerbahce are reportedly open on selling the player, however are demanding £31million for his services when the window re-opens in the summer.

Meanwhile, former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips believes Newcastle would be taking another gamble if they were to pursue a deal for Emmanuel Dennis.

A report from Belgium on Tuesday morning claimed the Magpies were one of four top-flight teams considering a £21m bid for the Champions League-experienced forward.

Phillips told Football Insider: “Of course it’s not working for Joelinton at the moment, it’s taking time for him to settle in. Certainly from Newcastle’s point of view, you don’t want to be in that situation again.

“You want somebody who has got experience of the Premier League. It would be a gamble again, in my opinion.

“The thing is, if you look closer to home, it’s difficult to find that striker that’s at the age that you want without having to spend stupid money, so a lot of these clubs do look abroad to get a better deal.

“I do think it would be a gamble, and if it doesn’t come off then you put yourself under pressure again.”
