'Get your act together!' - Newcastle United legend delivers stern warning to Matthias Jaissle

Shay Given has handed a warning to Matthias Jaissle after Newcastle United’s home defeat against Premier League rivals Aston Villa.

Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle must ‘get his act together’ after the Magpies suffered a third defeat in their last four Premier League games against Aston Villa on Saturday night.

After making a solid start to his first full season at St James Park with a run of just one defeat in his first seven games in all competitions, the former Al-Ahli and RB Salzburg boss has been unable to build on the momentum as his new look side have collected three points from their last four games and have conceded 10 goals in the process.

The impact of Saturday’s home defeat against Villa was heightened by the fact former Magpies transfer target Johan Manzambi grabbed the only goal of the game at St James Park after United made a firm move for his services during the summer transfer window.

With away days at Brighton and Hove Albion and Fulham and home games with Everton and champions Arsenal on the agenda over the coming month, former United stalwart Shay Given has delivered a stern warning to the Magpies boss and revealed he is ‘a bit worried’ over what could lie ahead.

He told Sky Sports: “Jaissle has to get his act together pretty sharpish and get these players [new signings] playing and mixed with the players already at the football club. We heard the fans at half-time, we hear the fans after the game. I was saying to Jamie [Redknapp], we’re surprised he’s gone around clapping the fans after losing at home and after losing heavily during the week.

“A manager when we played would have been straight down the tunnel trying to put it right but I suppose it’s the modern day manager. I’m a bit worried because their last two away games, they’ve conceded eight goals so the next three of four games are away from home and you look to the next game after that and you see the champions coming to town. It’s a tough fixture list and there are no easy games especially when confidence is low.”
