Newcastle United man in 'advanced talks' over exit as former striker eyed by Premier League rivals

It has been a very disappointing season for Newcastle United and Steve Bruce so far...

Newcastle United travel to Manchester United this evening, with Callum Wilson, Fabian Schar, Javier Manquillo and Federico Fernandez remaining sidelined with injury.

Bruce said: “Thankfully, we’ve not got any new injuries ahead of the weekend.

"Federico Fernandez trained yesterday and the day before but Sunday will be too soon for him. We’re hoping he’ll be ready for Wolves.”

He added: “The one who looks better is Manquillo, he twisted his ankle badly, but has responded very well to treatment.”

But the Magpies are just three points above the Premier League relegation zone following Fulham’s 1-0 win over Sheffield United yesterday – with Magpies supporters are starting to become concerned.

Steve Bruce’s side still have a game in hand on the 18th-placed Cottagers but that could quickly evaporate when they face Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Fulham have now picked up eight points from their last four games and have given themselves a chance of survival heading into the final 13 matches.

That has lead to the usual Rafa Benitez speculation.

However, Paul Merson has suggested that Newcastle United could be playing a “dangerous game" if there is any substance to recent rumours linking them with a sensational reunion with their former boss.

Speaking on Sky Sports News’ Soccer Saturday, the former Arsenal man said: “This is a dangerous game, this is.
