Huge Lewis Hall and England news set to break one week after penning Newcastle United contract

Thomas Tuchel snubbed Lewis Hall for his 26-man World Cup squad earlier this year.

Lewis Hall is set to be named in England’s squad for the upcoming fixtures against Spain, Croatia and the Czech Republic.

The 22-year-old suffered a brutal setback earlier this year when Thomas Tuchel left him out of the World Cup squad. Many expected Hall to be a shoo-in at left-back due to his form for Newcastle United last season.

However, the Toon defender was forced to watch from afar as England reached the semi-final. Hall put the rejection behind him and has enjoyed a stellar start to the season under Matthias Jaissle.

Lewis Hall set to earn recall

It is widely expected that Hall will be included when Tuchel announces his squad on Friday. The German will likely give an international recall to Dominic Calvert-Lewin after his brace against Newcastle.

Leeds United result aside, the news will cap off a positive few days for Hall. He put pen to paper on a bumper five-year contract extension last week.

Mixed international fortunes

Elsewhere, new recruit Bazoumana Toure has been called up to the Ivory Coast setup. The youngster netted a consolation in the 4-1 defeat to Leeds.

However, there is no room for Anthony Elanga in the Sweden squad after his latest injury. Newcastle were dealt a blow when the in-form winger was ruled out for the trip to Elland Road.

Jaissle feared the worst when briefing reporters earlier this week - suggesting a long-term setback. On a positive note, Lukas Hornicek will also return to the international fold and could face Hall as England play the Czech Republic twice during the extended break.

Interestingly, new Germany boss Jurgen Klopp has named two separate squads for the four fixtures. Malick Thiaw and Nick Woltemade - on loan at Juventus - have received call-ups for the games against Serbia and Greece.

Lewis Hall on England snub

When asked how he dealt with the summer snub, Hall told the club website: “Do you know what? It was actually really good in the end. Obviously, it wasn't what I wanted to be. I went through a couple of weeks after finding out that I wasn't going to be at the World Cup… just processing it.

“I was obviously gutted and I found out that I wasn't going to be going. These things happen and I'm trying to use it now as extra motivation to get myself back in the squad for the next international break. I've just got to look forward to the Euros now in two years and do everything I can to be selected for that.”
