‘Tough moments’ - Matthias Jaissle releases social media statement hours after Newcastle United win

Matthias Jaissle posted on social media for the first time since Newcastle United’s 2-1 win over Hull City.

Matthias Jaissle declared that he “couldn’t be prouder" of his Newcastle United players after the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.

The German faced growing negativity after consecutive defeats to Coventry City and Aston Villa. A defeat at Selhurst Park - a ground Newcastle have not won at since 2020 - would have only amplified the noise.

However, goals from Will Osula and Harvey Barnes got the Magpies back on track in the Premier League. Despite all the noise, Newcastle sit eighth in the table - and just two points outside the top four.

‘A tough game’ - Matthias Jaissle

In the press room, Jaissle discussed the improved performance levels in the second half. He told reporters: “It was a tough game, especially in the first half. We couldn't get ourselves the reward for the intensity we put in out of possession after the ball wins.

“In the second half, it was much better. We were more target-orientated, we threatened the opposition more and, therefore, I think when it comes to the second half and that improvement. In the end, also that willingness to defend and to have that clean sheet. It was a deserved win.”
