Newcastle United reveal striker boost as Boro friendly is cancelled

Newcastle United striker Joelinton has returned to full first-team training after an unexplained absence.

Photos of the Brazilian frontman mixing with Steve Bruce’s first-team group surfaced online today, which proves a welcome boost following the news Dwight Gayle will miss a large chunk of United’s Premier League opening games.

Bruce & Co kick off their top flight campaign in just 10 days at the London Stadium against West Ham United – and only Andy Carroll is fit and available having done a full summer programme.

Meanwhile, United have been spared a second embarrassing episode against North East rivals Middlesbrough, after Monday’s pre-season clash was cancelled.

Joelinton is back in training with Newcastle United's first-team squad after an unexplained absence.

United were hammered 5-1 at Boro’s training ground earlier this week.

A Tweet from the official club Twitter account confirmed the news. It reads: “It has been confirmed that a proposed training match against Middlesbrough will not take place. Saturday's visit of Stoke City is our final pre-season fixture.”
