But it is understood a deal to take the club off the hands of Mike Ashley is not further forward than it was when news of GACP Sports’ interest broke back in October.

DaGrosa has this week been freed of ties to Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux, having seen his 10% stake bought out.

And it’s understood DaGrosa remains keen to invest in another European football club, although he is also considering ploughing cash back into the MLS in his homeland.

DaGrosa, with former Manchester United and Chelsea chief Peter Kenyon, sees United as an investment opportunity, which can be grown organically, with the vast swathes of cash flooding the Premier League from across the globe.

On a smaller scale this is what he did at Bordeaux, but it was a tactic which proved deeply unpopular in France, with fans regularly protesting against his ‘frugal’ stewardship.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing a January double deal as Steve Bruce considers making a move for Everton duo Mason Holgate and Lewis Gibson.

Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign Newcastle United target Jarrod Bowen.

And finally, the data analysts have been running the numbers again and they’ve predicted where Newcastle will finish in the Premier League this season – it certainly makes for interesting reading!
