Newcastle United have been linked with Marega in the wake of the injury that is expected to keep Dwight Gayle out for several months.

A Bola claim that the club has made a £13million offer for the 29-year-old, and Marega’s representative has been speaking about the possibility of a move to England.

“At 29, Moussa is no longer old enough to have dreams,” said Aziz Ben Aissa. “Playing in the Premier League, more than an illusion, is an objective, as it will be for most footballers. Yes, it’s true that I’ve been contacted by several English clubs.

“If a business arises that allows Porto to earn good money with the transfer, that would be perfect and would make Moussa very happy, because what he liked most was to repay Porto for the investment made by the club in so many years of contract.”

Bruce was asked by the Gazette whether he was looking to sign a striker in this summer’s transfer window before Gayle suffered his knee injury.

“I’ve got to look at all areas of the squad,” said United’s head coach.

“I know it’s a pivotal part of Newcastle’s folklore. If we can improve in any position, then I’ll try, but certainly the forward areas are always the most mouth-watering ones, and the ones which get reported on.”

United, understood to be looking at a number of potential targets, are yet to reveal a timescale for Gayle’s return.
