Newcastle United leaked Champions League team news as double boost confirmed
Newcastle United v Athletic Club team news: Bruno Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier, Anthony Gordon and Nick Woltemade are all available for the Champions League clash.
Newcastle United return to Champions League action at St James’ Park against Athletic Club tonight (8pm kick-off).
Eddie Howe is hoping for a response from his side following Sunday’s 3-1 defeat at West Ham United in the Premier League.
The Magpies have won each of their last four matches at St James’ Park in all competitions and will be looking to make it three wins in a row in the Champions League this evening.
But there were a couple of fitness doubts ahead of the game, which have now been cleared up.
Tino Livramento and Yoane Wissa are already ruled out for the match with knee injuries while Jamaal Lascelles, Harrison Ashby, John Ruddy and Mark Gillespie are ineligible due to not being included in Newcastle’s Champions League squad.
Kieran Trippier missed the 3-1 defeat at West Ham United on Sunday due to illness but returned to training ahead of the game. But captain Bruno Guimaraes trained alone indoors on Tuesday after suffering from illness himself.
Bruno Guimaraes passes late fitness test
Sandro Tonali previously suffered with illness along with Jacob Murphy, Trippier and now Guimaraes.
Speaking ahead of the match, Howe said: “Yeah, so there seems like there's been a bit of illness going through the squad because that's various players now have picked something up.
“So I think Sandro initially, Jacob Murphy, Bruno, Kieran. So we're making a decision on Bruno tomorrow.
“He's such an important player for us, but he's clearly not been himself and that's why he missed training today.”
But after teasing his return on social media ahead of the game, Guimaraes was spotted arriving at St James’ Park prior to the team being announced.
Trippier was also part of the matchday squad arriving for the Athletic Club clash.
