Attacker latest

Federico Chiesa has been linked with a switch to Newcastle this summer. In this latest update regarding his future at Juventus by CaughtOffside, Tottenham Hotspur are ‘keen’ on landing him in this window but are currently unwilling to meet his wage demands.

The player is said to have teams in Saudi Arabia also monitoring his situation, whilst Roma and Napoli have cooled their interest.

Chiesa, 26, is an Italy international with 51 caps under his belt so far in his career. He helped his country win Euro 2020 after they beat England in the final at Wembley.

The forward has been on the books at Juventus since 2020. He intially joined them on loan before they made his move permanent.

He has made 131 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A outfit and has scored 32 goals, 10 of which came last term.

Prior to his transfer to Juve, he rose up through the ranks at Italian rivals Fiorentina and found the net on 34 occasions in 153 outings.

His future is up in the air now but it remains to be seen at this stage whether Newcastle are in the market for him.

Winger update

Newcastle and Arsenal have been ‘told’ by Barcelona that Raphinha is available for £50million, as per HITC Sport. The Brazilian faces a battle to get into Hansi Flick’s team due to the rise of Lamine Yamal.

Raphinha joined Barca back in 2022 and has since fired 20 goals in 87 matches for the La Liga outfit.

He was on the books at Leeds United before his move to Spain but couldn’t prevent the Whites from relegation to the Championship.

The ex-Sporting Lisbon and Rennes man is an option for Eddie Howe’s side but his price tag is pretty high still.

He could do with a change of scene over the next couple of months and his chances of regular game time with his current team could dry up.

Next pre-season opponents

Newcastle face Hull City at the MKM Stadium next Saturday (27th July). The Championship side have made only one signing in this window in the form of Ryan Giles from Luton Town.

They face Turkish giants Fenerbahce in Istanbul on Thursday evening in Jose Mourinho’s first home game in charge.

The Toon Army’s trip to East Yorkshire is chance for Howe’s players to get back up to speed and get some minutes.

The Tigers will be looking to be a stern test for Newcastle but have a match against Doncaster Rovers to get through next Tuesday evening after Fenerbahce as well before they face the Magpies next weekend.
