Highly-rated Newcastle United youngster completes Hebburn Town FC loan move after Champions League call-up
Newcastle United youngster Aidan Harris has completed a loan move to National League North club Hebburn Town.
Newcastle United academy goalkeeper Aidan Harris has been handed the chance to earn senior game-time after joining National League North neighbours Hebburn Town FC on a short-term loan.
The Washington-born stopper has been a regular in United academy sides in recent seasons and was named in first-team squads for Champions League fixtures against the likes of AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona over recent seasons. His first senior experience came with a loan spell with Northern Irish club Coleraine during the first half of last season and he went on to keep eight clean sheets in 20 appearances before returning to Tyneside in January.

There was some interest from clubs willing to take Harris on loan during the first half of the current campaign - but he has remained within the United first-team setup over the last two months. However, he will now join Hebburn on an initial one-month loan deal as the Hornets look to build on a solid start to their first ever season in the second tier of the non-league game.
Speaking after completing the deal, Hornets manager Daniel Moore told The Gazette: “We just felt we needed someone with that presence and we know that we get that with Aidan coming in from Newcastle. When we went to Newcastle, we actually asked for Aidan and to be fair to them, they said they know we give young lads a chance here and they were happy for him to come to us because of that. It’s a decent level for him, it’s really good for the club. We’ve had loan players from every club in the North East so we must be doing something right if they are willing to let them to come out to us.
“When you look at Aidan, he’s highly thought of at Newcastle and Eddie Howe wanted him in and around the first-team last year and that’s why the loan at Coleraine ended. It’s the same this year but if we can play a small part in his development and the kid goes on to bigger and better things then it’s worked for both clubs and, more importantly, for Aidan himself.”
Harris could make his Hebburn debut when his new side visit AFC Telford United on Saturday afternoon.
