The feeling among the fanbase seemed mixed on the full-time whistle, but one thing that everyone can agree on is the need for the Premier League to make a decision on the proposed £300m takeover.

Scroll down to see how supporters reacted on social media:

@Aaron_Kainth: Bruce is part of the problem and fair play he has done well this season as we had low expectations, but Mike Ashley is to be blamed. Sort out the takeover and give us an announcement.

@Frankie_090: Congratulations to Jose Mourinho on winning his first league game at St James' Park. Steve Bruce is not the man to move this club forward get him out and take Mike Ashley with him.

@AFleming95: More positive display, 3-1 is a harsh scoreline in my opinion. Unfortunate to be behind at the break, plenty positives in the first half. At least they had a go, Spurs just far more clinical.

@Randall1995: We should have got at least something from tonight but shocking defensive errors have cost again, not the ending we wanted to the season! #NUFC

@Eddy503Gosling: Not gonna complain too much. I think bringing Joelinton on for Gayle was a mistake also keeping the 3cbs. I think Joelinton should have come on for one of them and gone 2 upfront.

@north_east_pro: Nice of Steve Bruce to gift Jose his first league win at SJP. Pundits will still say he's a contender for manager of the season though.

@toonamry4life: McClaren even got a point against Mourinho at home. This team deserves to go down. Got lucky this entire season and will be bottom next season unless the takeover happens.

@Ben98whiteley: The defensive prowess of Benitez is well and truly gone. Our only defensive line now is Dubravka unfortunately. There is a 100% chance this team goes down next season if a takeover doesn’t happen.

@NUFC360: Please approve the takeover @PremierLeague - give us something to look forward to... #nufc
