Hendrick was in the team beaten 3-0 in a friendly at Wembley last night, and TV pundit Keane was critical of the midfielder for backing off Jadon Sancho, who scored England’s second goal with a low shot through the 28-year-old’s legs.
Keane felt that Hendrick, signed as a free agent in the summer, wasn’t tight enough on Sancho.
“Jeff Hendrick has got to get tighter,” said Keane. “There’s no excuse. There’s bodies around him, he’s in the box, Jeff has to close down. This idea that at this level players can be two or three yards off a dangerous player like that … it’s not good enough. He has to get tighter.”
