Bruce’s side, without a goal in three Premier League games was beaten 1-0 by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park yesterday. And United’s head coach pledged to “try something different” in Saturday’s home game against Burnley, which left the club 14th in the division.

“I didn’t think we deserved to win the game,” said Bruce. “When you don’t deserve to win the game, then you have to accept the consequences.

“We played a certain way all season, and always looked a threat. Yet we haven’t scored a lot. I just thought we huffed and puffed, and when we got to the final third, we didn’t do enough.”

Meanwhile, Jonjo Shelvey was pencilled in to take part in the pre-planned extra session. The midfielder has been sidelined since the middle of last month with a hamstring injury.
