Steve Bruce gives injury update on Isaac Hayden and Matt Ritchie

Hayden and Ritchie suffered “soft tissue” injuries in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw against Aston Villa at St James’s Park.

The pair are still being assessed ahead of Sunday’s behind-closed-doors home FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City.

Head coach Steve Bruce said: “We’ll see how they are today. It’s a big training session today. Yesterday was recovery day.”

“We’ve got one or two knocks and niggles. We’ll have to see how we are.”
